Description & Ingredients

Lavender is the fragrant flowering herb Lavandula angustifolia, famous for its purple spikes and unmistakable sweet, floral scent. Ours are whole organic or wildcrafted culinary flowers sourced from France, dried and loose, ready for the teapot or the kitchen. In Spanish it is called lavanda. Each bag contains 4 oz.

Beyond its beloved aroma, lavender is a real culinary flower. It steeps into a delicate floral tea, blends beautifully with chamomile, and flavors lavender lemonade, simple syrups, honey, shortbread, and baked goods. A little goes a long way, so a pinch is usually plenty. These are food grade flowers, not potpourri, so they are ready to cook and steep with.

We keep it simple, just whole dried lavender flowers with nothing added. Store the bag sealed and away from heat and light to hold the fragrance.

Store tightly closed in a dry place at room temperature, 59 to 86°F (15 to 30°C), as printed on the bag.

Frequently asked questions

How do you make lavender tea?
Add 1 tablespoon of dried lavender flowers to 8 fl oz of boiling water. Cover and steep 3 to 5 minutes, then strain. Lavender is bold, so start light and steep to taste.

Does lavender tea have caffeine?
No. Lavender is naturally caffeine free.

What does lavender tea taste like?
Floral and a little sweet, with a soft perfume like note. A pinch goes a long way, and it pairs well with chamomile.

Can I bake or cook with this lavender?
Yes. These are food grade culinary flowers, ready for lavender lemonade, simple syrups, shortbread and baked goods. A little is plenty.

What is lavender, and what is in it?
It is the dried flower of Lavandula, called lavanda in Spanish. This bag is one ingredient: organic or wildcrafted culinary lavender flowers from France, nothing added.

Where can I buy dried lavender?
Here. Orders leave in 1 to 2 business days, and we ship worldwide with duty pre paid for most countries. This is 4 oz of whole dried flowers, one ingredient, and the rest of the range is in loose leaf herbs and teas.

What is culinary lavender, and is this edible?
Culinary lavender is lavender grown and handled for food rather than for scent. This is Lavandula angustifolia, the variety used in cooking, and it is food grade, not potpourri and not craft filler. It goes into lavender lemonade, simple syrup, shortbread and baked goods, and a pinch is usually plenty.

What goes well with lavender?
It is bold and perfumed, so it wants something soft next to it rather than another strong flavour. Chamomile flowers, loose is the classic pairing, and the two together are what "té de lavanda y manzanilla" means in Spanish. It also works in a lavender sweetener and in blueberry lavender tea.

PRECAUTIONS

  • Lavender is strong. Start with less than you think and steep to taste.
  • Not for use during pregnancy or nursing.
  • Not recommended for anyone under 18.
  • Individuals with known medical conditions should consult a physician before use.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

How to Use

DIRECTIONS:

Add 1 tablespoon of lavender flowers to 8 fl oz of boiling water. Cover and steep for 3 to 5 minutes, then strain and enjoy. Because lavender is bold, start light and steep to taste. For a soft floral blend, pair it with chamomile.

In the kitchen: a pinch into lemonade, simple syrup, shortbread or baked goods. A little is plenty.

Store tightly closed in a dry place at room temperature, 59 to 86°F (15 to 30°C).
