Cascara Sagrada means sacred bark and comes from the bark of a tree in northwestern America. It is used for the relief of occasional constipation.*
This tree or shrub is also called frangula purshiana, and belongs to the Rhamnaceae family. It can be found primarily in the Pacific Northwest, as far south as central California and as far north as southern British Columbia. The shrub's natural growth area also extends eastward, to northwestern areas of Montana.
Turkey Rhubarb is a fiber that helps promote digestive health, and may be used as part of your diet to help promote already normal blood sugar levels in healthy adults.*
This plant is often used for its stalks, which can be made into a number of different dishes. It is in the Polygonaceae family. Originally, the stalks were called rhubarb, but eventually the name was used for the entire plant. The leaves of the rhubarb plant are large, triangular, and inedible. Small rose-red and greenish-white flowers are grouped in clusters on the plant's branches.*
Ginger helps support digestion, and alleviates bloating and the symptoms referred to as gas.*
The ginger root is often used as a spice. Ginger itself is a flowering plant in the Zingiberaceae family. It is closely related to cardamom and turmeric. As a perennial, ginger comes back every year after dying out in the winter months. It has pale yellow flowers that have purple edges to their petals.
Blessed Thistle helps promote digestive health.*
Cnicus benedictus is another name for Blessed Thistle, which is a flowering plant. Its leaves and stems contain sharp prickles. Native to the Mediterranean region, this plant can be found in Portugal, along with Iran and southern France. It is considered to be a weed in some parts of the world, including North America. As part of the Asteraceae family, the plant is also called spotted thistle.
