Description & Ingredients

Each tube holds 90 organic or wildcrafted maca root vegetable capsules, Lepidium meyenii, known across the Spanish speaking world as maca peruana. Country of origin Peru.

Maca is a root vegetable of the brassica family, a relative of turnip and radish, grown on the high Andean plateau of Peru at altitudes above 12,000 feet where almost nothing else will survive. It has been a staple food there for centuries, eaten as a vegetable and dried for storage, and it carries a distinctive nutty, malty, slightly earthy flavor.

These capsules are the dried root, milled. They have no taste, which is the main reason people choose them over the powder.

What is in a serving
A serving is 3 capsules and each tube holds 30 servings. Every serving gives 1350 mg of maca root, with the Daily Value not established, which is normal for a botanical. Whole milled root, not an extract and not standardized to any compound. The only other ingredient is the capsule, vegetable cellulose.

How to take it
As a dietary supplement, take 1 to 3 capsules daily.

How to store it
Tightly closed in a dry place at room temperature, 59 to 86°F (15 to 30°C), as printed on the tube.

Frequently asked questions

What is maca?
Maca is a root vegetable, Lepidium meyenii, from the Peruvian Andes. Botanically it sits in the brassica family alongside turnip, radish and cabbage. The root is the part used, dried and milled. This tube is that root in a vegetable capsule with nothing added.

Is this maca peruana?
Yes. Maca peruana simply means Peruvian maca, and all true maca is Peruvian; the plant grows on the Andean plateau and almost nowhere else. Country of origin on our label is Peru. If a product does not say where its maca comes from, that is worth asking about.

Is this raw maca or gelatinized maca?
This is dried, milled raw maca root, not gelatinized. Gelatinizing is a heat process that removes some of the starch, and it is a different product. If a recipe or a routine specifies gelatinized maca, this is not that.

Is this red, black or yellow maca?
Maca grows in several colors and some suppliers sell them separately. Ours is not color separated. If you are specifically after black or red maca, buy from a supplier who separates them, because we would rather tell you than guess.

Is this an extract?
No. It is the whole dried root, milled. An extract is concentrated and usually standardized to a compound; this is simply the root. Neither is better, they are different things, and we tell you which one you are buying.

How much maca should I take?
Our label directs 1 to 3 capsules daily. Three capsules is a full 1350 mg serving, and a tube of 90 lasts 30 days at that rate.

What does maca taste like, and why capsules?
Maca powder is nutty and malty with an earthy edge that some people love and some do not. The capsules have no taste at all. If you want the flavor, we sell maca root powder loose, for smoothies, lattes and shots.

Where can I buy maca capsules?
Here. This is 90 vegetable capsules of organic or wildcrafted maca root from Peru, one ingredient, nothing added. Orders leave in 1 to 2 business days, and we ship worldwide with duty pre paid for most countries.
