Description & Ingredients

Raspberry leaves, cut and sifted, 4 oz. Grown and harvested in Albania, and known as hojas de frambuesa in Spanish. One ingredient, nothing added.

How to make raspberry leaf tea

Add 1 teaspoon to 8 fl oz of boiling water. Cover and steep for 5 to 10 minutes, then strain. Keep it covered while it steeps. Because it is cut and sifted the pieces are small, so a fine mesh strainer or a tea ball holds them better than a wide colander. Ten minutes gives a noticeably stronger cup than five, so start short and work up.

What it tastes like, and what it does not taste like

Bold, fruity and earthy, closer to a black tea than to a floral infusion, with a dry finish. It does not taste of raspberries. This is the leaf of the plant, not the fruit, and it is the single thing people are most often surprised by. If you are after raspberry flavour this is not the bag. If you want a full bodied cup with no caffeine in it, it is.

What is in the bag

Cut and sifted raspberry leaves and nothing else. One ingredient, no fillers, no flavouring, nothing added. Cut and sifted means the dried leaf is chopped small and screened, so it brews evenly and measures out by the teaspoon.

What raspberry leaf is

The leaf of the raspberry bramble, a thorny cane fruit in the rose family alongside blackberry, strawberry and hawthorn. The leaf has been dried and drunk as tea in Europe for centuries, long before the fruit was cultivated commercially. This bag is from Albania.

How to store it

Tightly closed in a dry place at room temperature, 59 to 86°F (15 to 30°C), as printed on the bag.

Frequently asked questions

How do you make raspberry leaf tea?
Add 1 teaspoon of the cut and sifted leaf to 8 fl oz of boiling water, cover, and steep 5 to 10 minutes, then strain. Five minutes gives a lighter cup and ten a much stronger one. A fine mesh strainer or a stainless steel tea ball handles the small pieces.

Does raspberry leaf tea taste like raspberries?
No, and this is worth knowing before you buy. It is the leaf, not the fruit. The cup is bold, fruity in a dry earthy way, and closer to a black tea than to anything sweet. There is no raspberry flavour in it.

Does raspberry leaf tea have caffeine?
No. Raspberry leaf is naturally caffeine free, and nothing else is in the bag, so there is no caffeine in the cup at all.

Where can I buy dried raspberry leaves?
Here. Orders leave in 1 to 2 business days, and we ship worldwide with duty pre paid for most countries. This is 4 oz of cut and sifted leaf, one ingredient, and it sits with the rest of the range in loose leaf herbs and teas.

Is it organic, and where does it come from?
It is organic or wildcrafted raspberry leaf from Albania, and the country of origin is printed on the bag.

What else goes with it?
It is bold and dry rather than sweet or floral, so it sits well beside other full bodied leaves. People who drink it often also keep nettle leaf, loose or red clover, loose in the cupboard.

PRECAUTIONS

  • Not for use during pregnancy or nursing.
  • Not recommended for anyone under 18.
  • Individuals with known medical conditions should consult a physician before use.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

How to Use

DIRECTIONS:

Raspberry leaves have a bold, fruity, earthy flavour and are traditionally prepared as tea. To prepare as a tea, add 1 teaspoon of raspberry leaves to 8 fl oz of boiling water. Cover and steep for 5 to 10 minutes. Strain, then enjoy. Keep it covered while it steeps, and start at 5 minutes, because ten gives a much stronger cup.

Store tightly closed in a dry place at room temperature, 59 to 86°F (15 to 30°C).
