Description & Ingredients

Our Colon supplement is a herbal colon cleanse made with cascara sagrada bark, turkey rhubarb root, ginger root, and blessed thistle, for relief of occasional constipation.* Each tube holds 150 vegetable capsules, made with organic or wildcrafted herbs, third party tested for identity, heavy metals, and microbials.

Cascara sagrada. Cascara sagrada means sacred bark and comes from the bark of a tree in northwestern America. It is one of the most traditional herbs used for the relief of occasional constipation.* This tree or shrub is also called Frangula purshiana, and belongs to the Rhamnaceae family.

Turkey rhubarb root. Turkey rhubarb root helps support regularity.* It is in the Polygonaceae family. The leaves of the rhubarb plant are large, triangular, and inedible, while the stalks are edible.

Ginger. Ginger supports comfortable digestion.* Ginger is a flowering plant in the Zingiberaceae family, closely related to cardamom and turmeric.

Blessed thistle. Blessed thistle is a traditional bitter. Cnicus benedictus is another name for blessed thistle, a flowering plant native to the Mediterranean region.

Frequently asked questions

How long does one tube last?
It depends how many capsules you take. The label is 2 to 5 capsules on 2 to 3 days a week. Taken gently, 2 capsules twice a week, a 150 capsule tube lasts about 37 weeks. At 5 capsules twice a week, about 15 weeks. At 5 capsules three days a week, about 10 weeks. Because it is not an everyday supplement, one tube goes a long way.

Is cascara sagrada safe?
Cascara sagrada is a stimulant herb, and it is meant to be used short term rather than every day. Follow the label: 2 to 5 capsules on 2 to 3 days a week, for no more than 30 days at a time. Do not use it if you have or develop diarrhea, loose stools, or abdominal pain, and do not use it during pregnancy or nursing or give it to children. If you take prescription medication or have a medical condition, talk to your doctor before you start.

Can I take it every day?
The label starts at 2 to 3 days a week. If results are not observed, the label says to increase frequency to daily, up to a maximum of 30 days at a time. This is a short course herb, not meant for ongoing daily use beyond that 30 day window.

What is the capsule shell made of?
Vegetable cellulose, and nothing else. The capsules are vegan and contain no gelatin.

Is it vegan and free of animal products?
Yes. Every ingredient is a plant and the capsule shell is vegetable cellulose, so there is nothing of animal origin anywhere in the formula.

What else goes well with it?
If you want a gentler herb to sip rather than a short course of capsules, many customers use our Bitters Tea Supplement. For everyday minerals, our Sea Moss and Bladderwrack Supplement is the most popular product in the shop.

What does colon supplement do for my digestive system?
Colon supplement contains a blend of wildcrafted and / or organic herbs like cascara sagrada bark, turkey rhubarb root, ginger root, and blessed thistle, which are traditionally used to help relieve occasional constipation* and support regularity.* Ginger supports comfortable digestion and helps ease occasional gas and bloating.*

Can colon supplement help improve my regularity?
Our Colon Supplement contains cascara sagrada bark and turkey rhubarb root, two traditional herbs used to support regularity.* It is meant for occasional use, on 2 to 3 days a week and for no more than 30 days at a time. If you have or develop diarrhea, loose stools or abdominal pain, stop using it.

Are there any side effects from using the colon supplement?
Colon Supplement is generally well tolerated when used as directed. Some people notice mild digestive discomfort such as gas or bloating when they start. Because it contains cascara sagrada bark and rhubarb root, do not use it if you have or develop diarrhea, loose stools or abdominal pain, and do not use it for more than 30 days at a time. If you experience any unusual symptoms, stop using it and talk to a healthcare professional. If you take prescription medication or have a medical condition, talk to your doctor before you start.

How long will it take to feel the effects of colon supplement?
Everybody is different, so we do not promise a timeline. Colon Supplement is taken on 2 to 3 days a week rather than every day, with a full glass of water, for no more than 30 days at a time. Follow the directions on the label.

Is it safe to take colon supplement during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?
No. The label states that Colon Supplement is not for use during pregnancy or nursing, and not for children. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, do not use this product.

Where is colon supplement made?
Colon supplement is manufactured in the USA, in a GMP-certified facility, which ensures that the product meets the highest quality and safety standards. Each batch is produced with strict adherence to quality control measures and third party tested.

What is cascara sagrada bark?
Cascara sagrada (Rhamnus purshiana) is the dried bark of a North American tree with a long history of traditional use as a natural laxative for occasional constipation.* It is the lead herb in this blend, alongside turkey rhubarb root, ginger, and blessed thistle. Because it is a stimulant laxative, use it only as directed: 2 to 5 capsules on 2 to 3 days per week, and never for more than 30 days at a time.

How should I use colon supplement?
Take 2 to 5 capsules with a full glass of water, on 2 to 3 days per week. Use the smallest number of capsules that works for you. This is not an everyday supplement, and a single course should not run longer than 30 days. Do not use it if you have or develop diarrhea, loose stools or abdominal pain.

How to Use

DIRECTIONS:

Take 2 to 5 capsules per day, on 2 to 3 days per week, with a full glass of water. Use the smallest number that works for you. If results are not observed, increase frequency to daily. Allow up to 12 hours for the effect to occur. Do not take for longer than 30 days at a time.

Our Colon Supplement Is Third Party Tested

Our Colon Supplement Is Third Party Tested

We conduct third-party lab tests for identity, heavy metals, and microbials to help ensure the quality and safety of our colon capsules. Since trace metals can be found in many natural ingredients, we test each batch twice, once upon raw material arrival and again after encapsulation through an independent third-party lab. This two-step process helps ensure that our products meet our internal quality and safety standards.

We believe in full transparency. Download our third-party test report below.

What's in Our Colon Supplement Capsules: Four Herbs Per Serving

  • Cascara Sagrada Bark (Rhamnus purshiana)
Each serving of our Colon Supplement capsules contains 562.5 mg of cascara sagrada bark. Cascara is a small tree native to the Pacific Northwest of North America. Its Spanish name means "sacred bark." The bark contains anthraquinone glycosides known as cascarosides. Harvested bark is traditionally aged for a year before use.

  • Turkey Rhubarb Root (Rheum officinale)
Each serving contains 562.5 mg of turkey rhubarb root. This is a rhubarb species native to China, distinct from the garden rhubarb grown for its stalks. Its root contains anthraquinones including emodin and rhein, along with tannins. The name reflects the overland trade route through Turkey by which the dried root reached Europe.

  • Ginger Root (Zingiber officinale)
Each serving of our Colon Supplement capsules contains 562.5 mg of ginger root. Ginger is a flowering plant cultivated across South and Southeast Asia and one of the oldest traded spices. Its pungency comes from gingerols in the fresh root, which convert to shogaols as it dries.

  • Blessed Thistle (Cnicus benedictus)
Each serving contains 562.5 mg of blessed thistle whole plant. Blessed thistle is an annual in the daisy family, native to the Mediterranean, widely cultivated in medieval European monastery gardens. Its bitterness comes from cnicin.
