Yellow dock is the root of Rumex crispus, a hardy wild plant in the buckwheat family also known as curly dock. Ours is cut and sifted from organic or wildcrafted roots grown in the USA, ready to steep, with the strong, earthy, bitter flavor yellow dock is known for. Each bag contains 4 oz.
Yellow dock has a long place in traditional herbal kitchens, usually taken as a simple bitter tea or tincture. Because ours is already cut and sifted, it drops straight into a teapot or infuser. Its bold bitterness pairs nicely with sweeter roots, so many people blend it with dandelion or burdock.
We keep it simple, just cut and sifted yellow dock root with nothing added. Store the bag sealed and away from heat and light to keep the flavor strong.
Pregnant or nursing mothers, individuals under 18, and individuals with known medical conditions should consult a physician before use.
Add 1 teaspoon of cut and sifted yellow dock to 8 ounces of boiling water. Cover and steep for about 10 minutes, then strain and enjoy. It is boldly bitter on its own, so many people blend it with dandelion root or add a little honey.
