Flor de manita is one of the most unusual flowers in the plant world. It grows on the hand flower tree (Chiranthodendron pentadactylon), and each bright red bloom really does look like a small open hand with five curling fingers. That shape earned it the English name devil's hand flower and the Spanish nickname mano de leon. The tree grows in the highlands of Mexico and Central America, where the dried flowers have been brewed into tea for centuries.
Flor de manita is known for its subtle, smoky taste, and is traditionally prepared as a tea or tincture. The dried flowers are sturdy, so they hold up well to a long, covered steep.
Each bag holds 4 oz of organic or wildcrafted flor de manita sourced from Honduras. Just the dried flowers, nothing added.
Pregnant or nursing mothers, individuals under 18, and individuals with known medical conditions should consult a physician before use.
Add 2 to 3 chunks of flor de manita to 8 fl oz of boiling water. Cover and steep for 10 to 15 minutes. Strain, then enjoy hot or iced.
