Description & Ingredients

Lung is a loose leaf herbal tea of five plants in equal measure. Each 4 oz tube holds about 56 servings, with 400 mg of each herb in a 2 teaspoon serving, 2,000 mg of herb in all. Previously sold as Happy Lung Tea.

Mullein flower leads the blend, so if you have been looking for a mullein tea with more to it than mullein on its own, this is that. Four other plants sit alongside it in equal measure.

Mullein flower (Verbascum thapsus), gordolobo across Mexico and Latin America, comes from a tall roadside plant with woolly leaves and a flower stalk that can grow taller than a person. The soft yellow flowers are the part used here, picked and dried whole.

Elderberry (Sambucus nigra), saúco in Spanish, is the small dark fruit of the elder tree, one of the most widely used berries in European folk tradition.

Dandelion root (Taraxacum officinale), diente de león, is the root of the same yellow flower that comes up through every lawn. Steeped, it carries the bitterness the plant is known for.

Black cherry bark (Prunus serotina), also sold as wild cherry bark, is the inner bark of the American black cherry tree, with a distinctive almond-like aroma.

Palo guaco (Mikania glomerata) is a climbing vine from Central and South America. Ours is the whole plant, from Honduras.

The herbs are organic or wildcrafted, and come from the USA, Bulgaria, Honduras and Poland. Nothing is added: no flavoring, no caffeine, no filler. Every batch is third party tested for identity, microbials and heavy metals. Conocido en español como té para los pulmones.

Store tightly closed in a dry place at room temperature, 59 to 86°F.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a mullein tea?
Yes, as a blend. Mullein flower is one of the five plants and is present at 400 mg in every 2 teaspoon serving. It is not mullein on its own. If you want mullein by itself, we sell dried mullein flowers as a single herb, and the method is in our mullein tea guide.

Is this mullein leaf or mullein flower?
Flower. Most mullein products on the market are the leaf, which is cheaper and easier to harvest. This tea uses the soft yellow flowers, picked and dried whole. If you want mullein on its own, we sell mullein flower as a single herb.

How do I brew it?
Two teaspoons in an infuser, 8 fl oz of water brought to a rolling boil, poured over straight away, covered and left 5 minutes. Covering matters: it keeps the aromatic oils in the cup instead of in the steam. One teaspoon makes a lighter cup. A 4 oz tube gives about 56 servings.

Does it have caffeine?
No. None of the five plants contains caffeine, so it suits the evening as well as the morning.

Is there anyone who should not drink it?
Yes, and it is worth reading before you buy. It contains palo guaco, which naturally contains coumarin and may increase the effect of warfarin and other blood thinning medication, so do not use it if you take an anticoagulant. It also contains black cherry bark, traditionally taken short term only. Not for use during pregnancy or nursing. Anyone under 18, or with a known medical condition, should speak to a physician first.

How to Use

DIRECTIONS:

As a dietary supplement, one cup daily, morning or afternoon.

  • Add 2 teaspoons of loose leaf tea to an infuser or strainer, and set it in your cup. Use 1 teaspoon for a lighter cup.
  • Bring 8 fl oz of fresh cold water to a rolling boil.
  • Pour the water over the infuser straight away.
  • Cover and steep for 5 minutes. Covering keeps the aromatic oils in the cup rather than in the steam.
  • Remove the infuser and serve. Caffeine free, so it suits the evening as well.

A 4 oz tube gives 56 servings at 2 teaspoons.
