Turmeric root powder is the ground rhizome of Curcuma longa, a leafy plant in the ginger family grown across India and Southeast Asia. Ours is milled from organic or wildcrafted roots sourced from India, which gives it a deep golden color and the warm, earthy, faintly bitter aroma turmeric is known for. You may also see it called cúrcuma in Spanish. Each bag contains 4 oz of ground turmeric.
Turmeric has colored and flavored kitchens for thousands of years. It is the golden base of curries and stews, the warmth folded into a cup of chai, and the signature ingredient in golden milk, the spiced turmeric latte that traveled from Indian households to cafes around the world. A small spoonful stirred into rice, roasted vegetables, soups, or a morning smoothie carries both its vivid color and its distinctive taste.
We keep it simple, just milled turmeric root with nothing added, no fillers and no flow agents. Turmeric is a natural dye, so it will happily stain cloth and light surfaces, a sign of how rich the pigment is. Store the bag sealed and away from light and heat to keep the color bright and the aroma fresh.
Pregnant or nursing mothers, individuals under 18, and individuals with known medical conditions should consult a physician before use.
Golden milk: gently warm 1 cup of the milk of your choice. Whisk in about 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder, a small pinch of black pepper, a little cinnamon, and honey to taste. Heat for 3 to 4 minutes without boiling, then pour and enjoy.
Turmeric tea or herbal shot: add 1 to 2 teaspoons of turmeric powder to 4 ounces of boiling water. Stir well, cover, and steep for 2 to 3 minutes, then enjoy.
