Description & Ingredients

Mullein is a tall roadside plant famous for its woolly leaves and a flower stalk that can grow taller than a person. In Mexico the dried flowers are called gordolobo, and gordolobo tea has been a staple in traditional kitchens for generations. These are the dried mullein flowers, the part most tea drinkers look for.

People trying mullein tea for the first time usually ask two things. What does it taste like? Mild and lightly sweet, a little like honey and hay. Does it have caffeine? None at all, so many people enjoy it in the evening.

Each bag holds 2 oz of organic or wildcrafted mullein flowers from Mexico. Just the dried flowers, nothing added.

Gordolobo, and what it means
Gordolobo is the Spanish name for mullein. Same plant, Verbascum thapsus, and in Mexican kitchens gordolobo usually means these dried flowers rather than the leaf. If you grew up with té de gordolobo, this is the flower it was made from. Our bag is 2 oz of organic or wildcrafted gordolobo from Mexico.

How to store them
Tightly closed in a dry place at room temperature, 59 to 86°F (15 to 30°C), as printed on the bag.

Frequently asked questions

How do you make mullein tea?
Add 1 to 2 teaspoons of dried mullein flowers to 8 fl oz of boiling water. Cover and steep 10 to 15 minutes, then strain through a fine mesh or cloth to catch the tiny plant hairs.

Do I need to strain mullein tea?
Yes. Mullein has fine hairs that can tickle the throat, so strain it through a fine mesh strainer or a coffee filter. Full method in our mullein tea guide.

What does mullein tea taste like?
Mild and gently sweet, with a soft, floral, hay like character. No strong bitterness.

Is mullein flower tea the same as mullein leaf tea?
They come from the same plant, Verbascum thapsus. This is the flower, which brews a milder, lightly sweet cup than the leaf. Both are strained the same way.

Does mullein tea have caffeine?
No. Mullein is naturally caffeine free, so there is no caffeine in the cup.

What is mullein tea, and what is in it?
It is tea brewed from the dried flowers of Verbascum thapsus, called gordolobo in Spanish. This bag is one ingredient: organic or wildcrafted mullein flowers from Mexico, nothing added.

What is gordolobo in English?
Mullein. The plant is Verbascum thapsus, called mullein in English and gordolobo in Spanish, and this bag holds the dried flowers of it. You will also see it written as gordo lobo, two words.

Where can I buy gordolobo?
Here. This is 2 oz of organic or wildcrafted dried gordolobo flowers from Mexico, one ingredient. Orders leave in 1 to 2 business days, and we ship worldwide with duty pre paid for most countries. The rest of the range is in loose leaf herbs and teas.

PRECAUTIONS

  • Not for use during pregnancy or nursing.
  • Not recommended for anyone under 18.
  • Individuals with known medical conditions should consult a physician before use.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

How to Use

DIRECTIONS:

To make mullein tea, add 1 to 2 teaspoons of dried mullein flowers to 8 fl oz of boiling water. Cover and steep for 10 to 15 minutes. Strain through a fine mesh strainer or cloth, since mullein has fine plant hairs you will want to catch. Drink it hot, or chill it for iced gordolobo tea.

Store tightly closed in a dry place at room temperature, 59 to 86°F (15 to 30°C).
